The French player was barred by PSG from their preseason trip after failing to trigger the one-year extension in his contract during the summer.

The Ligue 1 winners are sure that they would not let Mbappe leave for free in the summer, but Real Madrid, the team most likely to sign him, is quietly planning a move as his contract is set to expire at the end of the current campaign.

Though the player and the team have maintained “peaceful relations” since being added back to the squad in August, it is still unclear whether the 24-year-old will sign a contract extension at PSG before the season ends. Footballwave  reports that an extension “is not being ruled out.”

Mbappe’s contract expires in 2024.

If a deal is agreed upon, it’s probably only going to be done so to obtain PSG a transfer price because it’s widely anticipated that Mbappe will leave in 2024.

Real Madrid is the clear frontrunner to sign the superstar, but Liverpool is hopeful that they can close a fantastic deal for Mbappe next summer, according to a report from footballwave.

The Premier League team, according to the source, is hoping to profit from the uncertainty surrounding Mbappe’s future. They claim to have “never broken contact with the player’s entourage” since their unsuccessful attempt to sign him in 2017.

Since those talks, Liverpool has never stopped believing that they could sign Mbappe someday. The Frenchman has been strongly linked to the Reds in recent seasons.

It would be a “surprise” to see the French international at Anfield next season, as footballwave  said, since the Merseyside club would probably only act if the PSG star is a free agent.
