Hansi Flick is poised to succeed Xavi as the head coach of Barcelona, generating considerable buzz about what he will bring to the club. German football legend Lothar Matthaus has shared insights on the types of players Flick admires and would like to bring to Camp Nou, though he acknowledges financial constraints might hinder such acquisitions.

Matthaus mentioned that Flick would love to have talents like Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala at Barcelona. However, he concedes that the club’s financial situation makes these signings unlikely.

“He has a fondness for Spain, having spent many summers vacationing there with his family. I am pleased for him, especially after his setbacks with Bayern Munich and the German national team,” Matthaus remarked.

He also emphasized the significant challenge Flick faces at Barcelona, noting the financial hurdles but also highlighting that Flick is familiar with several current first-team players.

“Despite the financial difficulties he will face, it is a great challenge for him. He will reconnect with old friends like Ter Stegen, Gündogan, and Lewandowski in his new role. Maybe he will bring one or two more familiar faces along,” Matthaus speculated.

Flick is expected to sign a two-year contract with Barcelona, but the official announcement might be delayed until Xavi’s contract situation is resolved.
