In their quest for the Premier League title this season, the Gunners understand the need to strengthen their squad, acknowledging the upcoming transfer window in January. While recognizing the importance of reinforcements, Arsenal is cautious about splurging due to the unpredictable nature of the market during that period, particularly on defensive signings.

Reports suggest that Mikel Arteta has a roster of high-profile names on his radar for potential signings, primarily focusing on future acquisitions for the summer. Among the exciting prospects, three Bundesliga talents—Nico Schlotterbeck, Jeremie Frimpong, and Matthijs de Ligt—are reportedly targeted by the club.

Frimpong, notably, has caught Arteta’s attention as a preferred long-term right-back, a sentiment previously highlighted by Footballwave. Another intriguing prospect is the potential pursuit of former Ajax starlet Jorrel Hato, yet the link with ex-Ajax standout De Ligt stands out prominently.

The prospect of De Ligt departing Bayern, however, seems improbable for 2024, given his substantial €67 million transfer to the club in 2022. Despite being 24 years old and having commanded over €150 million in transfer fees throughout his career, De Ligt hasn’t consistently secured regular playing time since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival at Bayern.

This lack of consistent game time has fueled speculation about his future, despite Tuchel downplaying any suggestions of an imminent move. Yet, the combination of De Ligt’s limited appearances, coupled with Bayern’s pursuit of costly defensive reinforcements, strengthens the idea that the Dutch defender might depart.

However, any potential move appears viable only in the summer transfer window. Moreover, acquiring De Ligt won’t come cheap, as his current Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €58.5 million, and Bayern will likely seek to maximize returns on their initial investment.
