Gabriel Martinelli is expected to make a comeback on Sunday against Brighton and Hove Albion, according to Mikel Arteta.


The Brazilian striker did not play in Tuesday night’s Champions League final group match against PSV. Despite only managing a 1-1 draw while Martinelli was out, the Gunners still qualified first in Group B with 13 points.

And now that Premier League play is back on the schedule, Arteta has given supporters a potentially important update. Arteta wants to pass Liverpool and return to the top of the table.

During his pre-match press conference, the Spaniard acknowledged that Martinelli might start in place of Leandro Trossard this coming weekend.

“He is in good spirits. When asked about the 22-year-old, the Arsenal manager responded, “He’ll be in contention,” as footballwave reported.

Martinelli, who has four and a half years remaining on his contract, has played in 19 games across all competitions since the beginning of the season and has four goals and three assists.
