The 24-year-old Uruguayan international has been a standout player for Barca in what has been a challenging season thus far. Teams such as Manchester United and Bayern Munich are interested in signing him and are hoping to entice him with a high-ball offer.

Barcelona controls the player’s future thanks to a contract that expires in 2026, but if teams keep pursuing him, it will be difficult to keep him in a settled situation.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Man Utd has expressed “strong interest” in the defender, suggesting that the Old Trafford team is prepared to step up the pressure.

It is further stated that the Red Devils are prepared to pay Araujo twice as much to entice him to join the team.

Barca has a problem with wages.
In order to comply with Financial Fair Play, Barcelona must lower their wage bill. However, although they are open to offers for a number of first-team players, Araujo is one of the few players who the board believes cannot be moved.

Their actual salary is €405 million, but LaLiga has set a salary limit of €270 million, according to a Sport report from September.

However, Araujo does not make a lot of money for them. His wages before taxes are estimated to be about €7 million annually, which does not even place him in the top ten earners at the club.

Barca would rather see some of their highest paid players leave. In the January transfer window, Raphinha is scheduled to depart, and Robert Lewandowski’s future is in doubt due to his dismal play.

Barcelona’s highest earner is Frenkie de Jong, but Xavi has stated that he does not want to see the former Man United target leave.

However, the manager of Camp Nou saw that the Old Trafford team was making another unwanted move towards one of his players, with Araujo in particular.
