Manchester United had the worst start to a campaign in over thirty years, and they are currently having one of the worst seasons in history.

They are currently out of the League Cup, far behind the leaders in the Premier League, and face elimination from the Champions League group stages.

Numerous players are facing criticism, and manager Erik ten Hag could be fired.

Many players may therefore be released in January as a result. We examine five potential exit strategies.

Sancho Jadon (Man Utd)
Following a public spat with Ten Hag, Jadon Sancho is expected to depart Manchester United in January, if not permanently.

For the Premier League match against Arsenal in September, Ten Hag named an 18-man roster, but Sancho was left off, citing subpar training sessions as the reason for his exclusion. Sancho immediately responded angrily to Ten Hag’s accusations on social media, calling him outright as a liar and disputing his claims.

Since then, Sancho has been kicked off the first team, made to train apart from the team, and even had his account removed from the club WhatsApp group. In January, there have been rumours of a move involving former team Borussia Dortmund and several Italian teams.

Donny van Beek, Manchester United

Man Utd outcast Fabrizio Romano claims that Donny van de Beek is “very likely” to depart the team in January.

Despite Real Sociedad’s keen interest, Van de Beek was not able to secure a transfer during the summer transfer window.

However, the attacking midfielder, who was deemed surplus to requirements, will most likely depart during the January transfer window.

Van de Beek has only played two minutes of Premier League football this season.

In January, he plans to look for a new club with an eye towards the summer of Euro 2024.

Amad Diallo
Amad Diallo won’t be leaving Manchester United permanently in January, but after his excellent season at Championship team Sunderland the previous year, they might approve another loan transfer.

Tony Mowbray’s team advanced to the play-off semifinals before losing to Luton Town, the eventual winners, despite the Ivorian’s 13 league goals.

He hasn’t played at all this season due to a knee injury, so United might think that sending him on loan will help him get back into shape before 2024–25.

Atalanta, his previous team, has been mentioned as being interested.

Casemiro
Casemiro’s departure is a more improbable but still plausible option.

The 31-year-old, who was excellent in his debut season at Manchester United, has struggled in his second year of play despite maintaining a spot as a regular when available under Ten Hag.

This has raised concerns about whether the player has progressed past it.

Numerous reports have indicated that Saudi Arabia is interested, and Cristiano Ronaldo, his former Real Madrid teammate, is trying to persuade the Brazilian to move there with him.

Anthony
Given that Man Utd paid €100 million for Antony from Ajax just over a year ago, there is no way they will be able to sell him in January.

However, Man Utd might be better off sending him out on a six-month loan to give him the time and space he needs to regain his confidence and contribute value.

Due to his terrible season thus far—he has not scored or assisted—as well as his off-field issues, he has been more and more connected to leaving United in recent days.
