EXCLUSIVE NEWS: Provided by Fabrizio Romano Manchester United have just given an update on two possible Manchester United transfer targets.

Despite connections to other teams involving a new winger and right-back, Manchester United has been watching Benfica wonderkid Joao Neves and is interested in signing a center-back as their top target in 2024.

Fabrizio Romano said as much to Footballwave for his exclusive Daily Briefing column. According to Romano’s sources, Man Utd does not appear to have altered their plans.

The Red Devils are keeping an eye on Neves, but based on Romano’s remarks, it appears that the young Portuguese midfielder won’t be the team’s top priority right away. Instead, they will likely concentrate on fortifying their defence, as Lisandro Martinez is currently sidelined due to injury and Raphael Varane has recently lost favour with Erik ten Hag.

Though Romano noted that the connections with a right-back don’t necessarily make that much sense given that United already has Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot as perfectly good possibilities in that position, one could think that United could also use the addition of a winger.

Regarding Neves’ interest, Romano stated: “Scouts from Manchester United watched Neves play against Sporting. This could be one to watch in the future as they want to monitor his growth and development.

“I can confirm that Man United is one of the many clubs that are keeping an eye on him.”

“I’ve had some fans asking me about reports linking them with an interest in a winger and a right-back this January, but that’s not the information I have,” he continued when speaking about other possible targets.

“As I recently stated, I’ve been informed that a center-back is their top priority for 2024, and I believe they have excellent coverage at right-back with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot.”

It’s been a challenging season for MUFC, who now have a steep hill to climb in order to advance out of their Champions League group. They have also been inconsistent in the Premier League despite some encouraging results in their last few games, and they have also lost out on the Carabao Cup.
