Liverpool are reportedly planning a surprising swap deal to acquire Brazilian international Rodrygo from Real Madrid.

According to Spanish outlet Nacional, the Reds are looking to capitalize on the uncertain situation surrounding Rodrygo. Real Madrid’s recent confirmation of Kylian Mbappe’s signing, along with the arrival of Endrick, could push Rodrygo to the bench. In light of this, Liverpool are keen to secure the South American’s services, but his high price tag poses a challenge.

The Catalan media source reports that Real Madrid values Rodrygo at over €100 million (£85 million). To mitigate this cost, Liverpool are proposing a swap deal involving Trent Alexander-Arnold, who would move to the Bernabeu in exchange for Rodrygo coming to Anfield. Alexander-Arnold, who was named vice-captain of Liverpool last year, has not yet signed a new contract. Therefore, Liverpool aim to sell him to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year and to fund Rodrygo’s acquisition.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is interested in Alexander-Arnold to replace veteran right-back Dani Carvajal. Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Arne Slot needs a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah, and Rodrygo would be an excellent addition. However, Slot must also retain key players, and Alexander-Arnold is undoubtedly one of them.
