Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona have reignited their pursuit of Liverpool’s Luis Diaz. Under Hansi Flick, Barcelona’s primary objective is to strengthen the left side of their starting lineup, addressing their limited options on the left wing.

To acquire the 27-year-old Colombian from Liverpool, Barcelona is contemplating selling Raphinha. Despite Raphinha’s impressive record of 20 goals and 25 assists in 87 appearances, rumors suggest the 27-year-old might move on, despite his contract running until 2027.

Liverpool, however, are reluctant to part with Diaz, who was signed from FC Porto in January 2022 for £50 million, including add-ons (via Daily Mail). Since joining, Diaz has scored 24 goals and provided 13 assists in 98 appearances. Following Jurgen Klopp’s departure, several Liverpool players have been linked with transfers, but the club aims to retain key players like Diaz.

Barcelona views Diaz as an upgrade over Raphinha, especially since Lamine Yamal occupies the right flank. Although Raphinha received an offer from Saudi Arabia, he isn’t interested in moving to the Middle East. Barcelona is waiting for more offers for Raphinha before proceeding with their interest in Diaz. Reports indicate that Barcelona’s sporting director Deco and his team consider Diaz an excellent fit, appreciating his age and mentality.

Diaz was a key player for Liverpool last season, making 51 appearances across all competitions, scoring 10 goals, and providing five assists. As new manager Arne Slot begins his tenure, it is crucial for Liverpool to retain Diaz, who is vital to their attack, offering pace and width. While Diaz could improve his finishing, his role at Anfield is significant. Liverpool should only contemplate selling him if the financial offer is exceptionally advantageous.
