Liverpool are leading the race among several English clubs interested in acquiring Real Madrid’s attacking midfielder Rodrygo this summer, according to the Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web.

Despite this interest, Real Madrid, the La Liga champions, are not inclined to sell the Brazilian international due to his significant role in the team.

Rodrygo is anticipated to see less playing time under manager Carlo Ancelotti when Kylian Mbappe joins as a free agent in the coming weeks. Liverpool have been closely watching this development for some time.

The Reds are keen on the £102 million forward to strengthen their attacking options, especially given the uncertain futures of Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah, and Darwin Nunez at Anfield.

Liverpool is not the only major club eyeing Rodrygo; Paris Saint-Germain’s manager Luis Enrique is also interested in the 23-year-old as a potential replacement for Mbappe.

Rodrygo has had an impressive season, starting 42 out of 50 games, scoring 17 goals, and providing seven assists. He aims to finish the 2023-24 season on a high note by helping Madrid win the Champions League on Saturday.

However, his excellent performance this season might not prevent him from being overshadowed by Mbappe if he stays at Madrid beyond this summer.

Joining Liverpool would offer Rodrygo the opportunity to compete in what is often regarded as the world’s best league and continue to vie for major titles under manager Arne Slot.

Since his arrival at Madrid in 2019, the former Santos player has won numerous titles, including three La Liga championships, a Spanish Cup, three Spanish Super Cups, a Champions League, a UEFA Super Cup, and a FIFA Club World Cup. Rodrygo’s desire to continue winning trophies could be fulfilled by moving to Liverpool.

It remains uncertain if Rodrygo will express interest in the move, and Liverpool might have to wait until January or the summer of 2025 to secure the player.
