Barcelona fans have celebrated joyfully on social media following the announcement that Hansi Flick will be their new manager. The former Bayern Munich coach is set to replace Xavi Hernandez for the 2024-25 season, as Xavi was dismissed earlier today (May 24).
Hansi Flick made a significant mark in European football during his tenure at Bayern Munich from 2019 to 2021. Under his leadership, the club secured seven major trophies, including two Bundesliga titles, the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League, and an unprecedented sextuple in 2020. Flick’s impressive record with Bayern saw him manage 86 games, winning 70, drawing nine, and losing only seven, resulting in a remarkable win percentage of 81.40. He also led Bayern to a Bundesliga record of 23 consecutive victories between February and September 2020.
After his successful stint with Bayern, Flick took on the role of managing the German national team. However, his tenure there was less successful, with only 12 wins in 25 matches and an average of 1.72 points per game—the second-lowest in the team’s history. Flick was dismissed in September 2023 and has been without a managerial position since then. Now, he looks to revitalize his career at Barcelona, having signed a two-year contract as confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano:

Barcelona released an official statement on their website regarding Xavi Hernandez’s departure as head coach for the upcoming season. Xavi had initially planned to step down in January but reversed his decision after positive discussions with club president Joan Laporta. Despite this, he was unexpectedly dismissed today.
Laporta, along with sporting vice-president Rafa Yuste, director of sport Anderson Luis de Souza (Deco), Oscar Hernandez, and Sergio Alegre, informed Xavi of the decision during a meeting at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. The club’s statement expressed gratitude for Xavi’s contributions as a coach and for his illustrious career as a player and captain, wishing him success in his future endeavors:
“FC Barcelona wishes to thank Xavi for his work as coach, as well as for his inimitable career as a player and as team captain, and wishes him every future success in the world.”
“Xavi Hernández will be coaching the team for the last time in Sunday’s game away to Sevilla. During the course of the next few days, FC Barcelona will be making an announcement regarding the new first team structure,” the statement continued.
Xavi Hernandez took over as Barcelona’s head coach in November 2021. He found notable success in the 2022-23 season, leading the team to victory in La Liga and the Supercopa de Espana.
