The 52-year-old Argentine underwent an internal assessment, led by sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, alongside co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali, following their 2-1 triumph against Bournemouth on the last day of the season. This affirmed their sixth-place finish in the Premier League, securing their spot in Europe for the next season. However, insiders suggest that Chelsea is eyeing a ‘young’ coach to replace Pochettino, with Kieran McKenna from Ipswich among the potential candidates.

Pochettino had a meeting with owner-chairman Todd Boehly in London the night before the final game but received no assurances about his future. Subsequently, in discussions with Winstanley, Stewart, and Eghbali on Monday and Tuesday, it was decided that the club and the manager should part ways, despite Pochettino having a year left on his contract.

Following the decision, sporting directors Stewart and Winstanley expressed gratitude to Mauricio for his service throughout the season, stating that he would be welcomed back to Stamford Bridge anytime, wishing him success in his future coaching endeavors. Pochettino also thanked the Chelsea ownership group and sporting directors for the opportunity to contribute to the club’s history, expressing confidence in the club’s prospects in the Premier League and Europe going forward.

In addition to Pochettino, coaches Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez, and Sebastiano Pochettino also departed from the club. Despite Chelsea’s strong finish to the season, with five consecutive wins securing a sixth-place finish and a Carabao Cup final appearance under Pochettino’s guidance, the decision to part ways was made.

Pochettino’s departure marks the third managerial change at Chelsea since the Todd Boehly-led consortium took over in May 2022, following the sackings of Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter in the previous season.
