Chelsea are monitoring a title-winning midfielder as they prepare for the potential departure of Conor Gallagher, according to TBR Football.

Under Todd Boehly’s ownership, Chelsea have invested heavily in their squad, spending over £1 billion. Despite this, they remain far from being competitive for major trophies. Determined to rebuild and challenge top teams, Chelsea are planning significant moves this summer, with a Paris Saint-Germain player now in their sights.

Chelsea are particularly interested in PSG’s Manuel Ugarte. TBR Football reports that Chelsea are closely watching Ugarte’s situation at PSG. The French champions, undergoing their own squad overhaul, are considering offloading several expensive players, including Ugarte.

The Uruguayan midfielder joined PSG from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2023 for around £51 million, having been pursued by Chelsea at the time. Despite missing out then, Chelsea’s interest in Ugarte persists, and they are now exploring the possibility of acquiring him this summer. The 23-year-old Ugarte is reportedly aware of PSG’s position and is open to a move to England.

Meanwhile, Chelsea are preparing to allow Conor Gallagher to leave. Newer recruits like Carney Chukwuemeka, Lesley Ugochukwu, and Romeo Lavia have yet to establish themselves, partly due to injuries. As a result, bringing in a new midfielder is a priority for Chelsea.

Liverpool, Manchester United, and Juventus, who have shown interest in Ugarte before, will also be attentive to his availability.

The future of Conor Gallagher at Chelsea has been a topic of discussion since summer 2023. Entering the final year of his contract this summer, Chelsea must decide soon. TBR Football reveals that Gallagher has not yet received a contract offer from Chelsea, though Tottenham, Newcastle United, and West Ham are all interested in him. Gallagher, however, wishes to remain at Stamford Bridge but is growing concerned about the lack of a concrete offer despite contract talks starting in summer 2023. Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to retain Gallagher and hopes the club will extend his contract.
