Liverpool may thwart Premier League rivals Arsenal’s aspirations to secure the signing of Newcastle United sensation Alexander Isak during the upcoming summer transfer window. Isak has emerged as a target for a potential move to the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks, with Newcastle reportedly open to selling him as financial fair play (FFP) constraints begin to exert pressure.

The upcoming transfer window could witness a flurry of activity within the Premier League, with several marquee players anticipated to switch clubs within the division. The prospect of Isak joining Arsenal has been circulating, given Newcastle’s imperative to offload players.

However, Arsenal’s pursuit of the Swedish forward could hit a roadblock if Liverpool opts to splash the cash for another key player from Newcastle. According to reports from the Daily Star, the Reds are contemplating a surprise move for former Everton prodigy Anthony Gordon.

Gordon has impressed since his £45 million move to Newcastle, contributing to 23 goals in over 60 appearances. His stellar performances have earned him a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad, making him a serious contender for a spot in the squad for the upcoming European Championships in Germany.

Consequently, the 23-year-old has attracted the attention of his hometown club Liverpool, who are compiling a list of potential targets for their first summer transfer window under the post-Jurgen Klopp era. However, if the reigning Premier League champions intend to lure Newcastle into selling Gordon, they would likely need to offer a nine-figure sum.

Reports suggest that Newcastle would entertain offers in the vicinity of £100 million for Gordon, who recently clinched the title of Newcastle’s Player of the Season. Although a substantial fee, Liverpool’s unexpected move for Gordon could impede Arsenal’s pursuit of Isak.

This scenario arises because Newcastle would no longer face the same urgency to raise funds if they could pocket a profit of approximately £60 million for Gordon. Moreover, considering that Isak himself commanded a hefty fee of £63 million, Gordon’s sale would represent a more lucrative option for Eddie Howe’s side.

The Newcastle hierarchy faces a pivotal decision in this regard. However, there is a third player in contention, with Manchester City reportedly expressing interest in Bruno Guimaraes. Like his esteemed teammates, the Brazilian international is purportedly valued at around £100 million by Newcastle.

Given City’s financial resources, they could justify the acquisition, potentially leaving both Arsenal and Liverpool at risk of missing out on their respective summer targets.
