With only six Premier League matches remaining, Mo Salah may be approaching the final stretch of his tenure at Liverpool, according to Steve Nicol, who has pinpointed a potential successor for the Egyptian star.

Salah has been the subject of transfer speculation before, notably last summer when a £150m bid from Saudi Arabia almost lured him away, but he ultimately opted to stay. However, with Jurgen Klopp set to depart, several players may reassess their futures, with Salah possibly among them.

Although Richard Hughes is reportedly eager to extend Salah’s contract, alongside those of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, Nicol and Craig Burley foresee Salah’s departure either this summer or the next, especially considering his current contract expiring in 2025.

Nicol, speaking on ESPN FC, suggested Victor Osimhen as an ideal replacement for Salah. He believes the Nigerian forward from Napoli would excel at Liverpool, potentially pushing Darwin Nunez to the left wing, a position he previously occupied at Benfica.

Despite Liverpool’s interest, securing Osimhen’s services might prove challenging, especially with reports linking him to PSG as a replacement for Kylian Mbappe. Furthermore, even if Liverpool meets Napoli’s asking price, Osimhen’s £113m release clause could pose a significant financial hurdle.

While acquiring Osimhen could enhance Liverpool’s squad and potentially elevate Nunez’s performance, the likelihood of completing such a costly transfer remains uncertain. However, the prospect of Osimhen joining any Premier League club would undoubtedly shake up the league’s dynamics.
