Liverpool is reportedly prepared to shatter the British transfer record in their pursuit of a replacement for Mohamed Salah, according to a recent report.

As per Spanish outlet Sport, Liverpool is eyeing Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. as a potential successor to Salah should the Egyptian star depart Anfield. The report suggests that Liverpool, along with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, are willing to table a whopping ยฃ171 million offer to secure the services of the Brazilian winger.

However, despite the significant interest, Real Madrid is reportedly not keen on parting ways with Vinicius. Instead, they are looking to extend his contract for another five years, indicating their commitment to retaining the talented forward.

Vinicius Jr. has been in scintillating form this season, netting 18 goals and providing 8 assists in 28 appearances for Real Madrid. His overall record for the Spanish giants stands at 77 goals and 72 assists in 253 outings, according to Transfermarkt.

The possibility of Liverpool cashing in on Salah this summer looms large, especially after the club reportedly turned down a lucrative ยฃ150 million bid from Al Ittihad last summer. With Salah’s contract set to expire in 2025 and uncertainty surrounding Jurgen Klopp’s future, there is speculation that the prolific forward could seek a new challenge in the upcoming transfer window.

Recent reports suggest that Liverpool’s sporting director, Michael Edwards, is prioritizing contract extensions for key players such as Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, if negotiations with Salah fail to yield an agreement, the club may consider selling him rather than risk losing him for free the following year.

Salah has once again been a standout performer for Liverpool this season, contributing an impressive tally of 22 goals and 13 assists in 34 appearances across all competitions. Since joining Liverpool, he has consistently delivered double-digit figures in both goals and assists, boasting an extraordinary record of 208 goals and 89 assists in 339 games.
