As much as you didn’t want to admit it, a repeat of that FA Cup defeat felt as though it was on the cards.

It wasn’t that bad, thankfully, but given the state of the title race, this can’t be viewed as anything other than two points dropped, and a potentially fatal blow in the hunt for the Premier League crown. And it was telling that the anger was not directed at anyone in particular, but several different stars. None were as clinical as required.

Liverpool’s fate is no longer in its own hands. Arsenal now leads the way on goal difference, and with the mood Mikel Arteta’s side looks to be in at the moment, it’s hard to see how the Reds might claw that back.

If it wasn’t already the case, there really is no more room for slip-ups from here. The Gunners’ run-in does look markedly trickier than Liverpool’s, but even if Arsenal leaves the door open, Manchester City will also be ready to walk through it.

The title race is far from over with seven games still to go. Liverpool needs to learn from its failure to beat United this season though. As frustrating as today’s draw has been, it will be nothing compared to the feeling if the Reds go on to narrowly miss out on the league now.
