Emmanuel Petit, an Arsenal legend, has advocated for his former club to pursue Marcus Rashford.

The England forward’s future at Manchester United has come under scrutiny in recent months following a fluctuating season. Reports suggest that Rashford’s relationship with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag may not be optimal, leading to speculation about a potential departure from the club during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Arsenal has emerged as a rumored destination for the 26-year-old winger in recent weeks, a prospect that Petit, who achieved the Double with Arsenal in 1997-98, strongly supports.

Petit expressed his endorsement, stating, “Marcus Rashford could be an excellent option for Arsenal, definitely. My only question mark would be on his mind and where he is mentally.” He continued, “Last season, he played so well for weeks and weeks, but this season it hasn’t been the same Marcus Rashford.”

Concerning Rashford’s mental state, Petit remarked, “I think he’s very sensitive and he must find a balance between his professional and private life – if he finds the balance he will be great again. We all know his qualities and skills, but I’m wondering mentally if he can reach the standards of where he should be.” Petit emphasized the importance of Rashford receiving support and serenity from his agents to consistently perform at his best.

Reflecting on Rashford’s reported personal struggles, Petit drew from his own experiences, stating, “I heard from France that he’s been through difficult times privately. I was going through the same thing as a player, I could never be in good form if I wasn’t right in my private life.”

Arsenal’s interest in Rashford aligns with their pursuit of at least one winger during the upcoming transfer window, as they aim to alleviate their dependence on Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

Rashford’s statistics for the current season show a decline compared to his outstanding performances in the previous season. He has scored seven goals and provided five assists in 34 appearances across all competitions, a decrease from his 30 goals and nine assists in the previous campaign.
