The manager of Manchester United finds himself once again facing severe criticism. With Rasmus Hojlund sidelined due to injury, the Red Devils suffered a harsh 2-1 defeat against Fulham, lacking a recognized number nine. This loss prompted intense scrutiny of Ten Hag’s squad selection and tactical approach.

There has been extensive discussion about the future of the Dutch manager this season. Despite a recent period of good form temporarily masking some issues, it’s evident that Manchester United is enduring a challenging campaign. Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new minority stakeholder overseeing sporting operations, has yet to offer Ten Hag a strong vote of confidence.

Under Ratcliffe’s leadership, there’s an expectation of a more ruthless approach to recruitment and managerial decisions compared to what Manchester United has seen before. Consequently, there’s no certainty that Ten Hag will retain his job beyond this season, especially with results like the defeat to Fulham exacerbating his position.

Unsurprisingly, Manchester United continues to be linked with prominent managers. With Thomas Tuchel reportedly departing Bayern Munich at the end of the season, speculation has arisen about his interest in the Old Trafford job.

However, it’s evident that Manchester United should avoid Tuchel at all costs, given the decline in his managerial effectiveness. Nonetheless, according to reports from Sports Zone, another German, Julian Nagelsmann, is reportedly a top target for INEOS and would be enthusiastic about leading Manchester United, allegedly eyeing the role since last summer. However, there’s a significant hurdle in pursuing Nagelsmann.

Currently managing the German national team until Euro 2024, Nagelsmann wouldn’t be available to start a new role until later in the summer. If Ten Hag were to be sacked, Manchester United would ideally want their new coach in place at the start of preseason, rather than towards the end, presenting a potential challenge in securing Nagelsmann’s services.
