Real Madrid is reportedly considering a move for Marcus Rashford in a potential swap deal that would involve the return of Takefusa Kubo, followed by offering him to Manchester United. According to reports from Spanish outlet Real Madrid Exclusivo (Footballwave), Madrid is contemplating offering Kubo in exchange for Rashford during the upcoming summer transfer window. The La Liga giants have a buy-back clause in Kubo’s contract with Real Sociedad.

The intention is for Real Madrid to bring back Kubo, whose clause is valued at €30 million (£25.5 million), and then use him as part of the deal to acquire Rashford at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, it’s unlikely that a straightforward swap deal will suffice, as Manchester United could demand around £120 million for Rashford, who is 26 years old and recently signed a new long-term contract expiring in 2028.

Rashford has faced challenges during the 2023-24 season, both on and off the field. The English forward has struggled to replicate his exceptional form from the previous season, recording five goals and six assists in 29 appearances across various competitions. Recently, he faced disciplinary action from his club after missing training due to a night out drinking, resulting in a deduction of two weeks’ wages (£650,000). Despite this setback, Rashford has returned to Erik ten Hag’s first team.

Manchester United also hold an interest in Kubo, 22, who has performed well for Real Sociedad this season, tallying six goals and four assists in 27 games across competitions. Kubo departed from Real Madrid to Reale Arena in July 2022 for a fee of €6.5 million. Now, there’s a possibility of his return to Madrid, albeit as part of a swap deal involving one of English football’s prominent stars.

In addition to Rashford, Real Madrid is reportedly monitoring another Manchester United forward, Rasmus Hojlund. Reports suggest that the La Liga leaders are keeping an eye on the 21-year-old Danish forward, who has impressed since joining United, scoring 11 goals and providing two assists in 29 games across competitions. Hojlund has scored five goals in his last five appearances, showcasing his potential.

Madrid sees Hojlund as a backup option should they fail to secure signings like Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland, with the former expected to join from Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expires. Despite these high-profile targets, Real Madrid’s head scout Juni Calafat has been monitoring Hojlund’s progress since his time at Atalanta in Serie A, indicating continued interest in the young Danish talent amid his tenure at Manchester United.
