SHOCKING NEWS: Liverpool have identified Crystal Palace star defender as a potential replacement for Joel Matip, according to Fabrizio Romano. Negotiations are currently ongoing and the defender has expressed his desire to join the premier League Giants he said ” I never expected it (smiles) liverpool coming for me when the call came I didn’t think twice I said yes I want to move I’m ready to put my all if I’m eventually signed into the team”.

Footballwave reports that Liverpool has considered using Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in place of Joel Matip.

Not only is Matip sidelined due to a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament injury, but his contract with Liverpool also expires in the summer. Despite commendable performances by Joe Gomez and Jarell Quansah in Matip’s absence, they are not considered permanent fixtures in the team. Additionally, Captain Virgil van Dijk, while still excelling at 32, turns 33 in July, prompting consideration for another quality defensive option.

Liverpool had initially prioritized midfield overhauls last summer, neglecting the need for a center-back. However, with the best defense in the Premier League, they are now prepared to address this area.

At 23, Guehi, a standout player at Selhurst Park since departing Chelsea, is viewed as an excellent addition to Liverpool. Despite his potential appeal, any potential deal would likely have to wait until the end of the season, as Crystal Palace is reluctant to part with key assets amid a relegation battle.

As an alternative, Liverpool has identified Bayer Leverkusen’s 22-year-old Piero Hincapie. Currently under the management of former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, Hincapie has made 19 appearances for Bundesliga-leading Leverkusen this season. Although the Reds expressed interest in Hincapie last summer, Leverkusen was inclined to wait until 2024 before considering a sale. Recent reports suggest that Hincapie remains a top candidate for the center-back position in Liverpool’s recruitment plans.

Liverpool’s keen interest in the 30-cap Ecuador international prompted inquiries about a potential deal this month. However, Leverkusen rejected these advances, unwilling to entertain a sale amid their ongoing title challenge.

Another left-sided defender frequently linked to Liverpool is Sporting CP’s Goncalo Inacio.
