Manchester United has reportedly shown interest in signing Ivan Provedel from Lazio, as per reports from Footballwave. Notably, this season, he has gained recognition as the most renowned goalscoring goalkeeper globally.

Provedel made a significant impact during the Champions League group stage by netting a crucial late goal, securing a 1-1 draw for Lazio against Atletico Madrid. His 96th-minute equalizer in that match proved pivotal, helping Lazio advance to the last-16 stage. Remarkably, this marked only the third instance in the history of the Champions League where a goalkeeper scored during open play.

This isn’t the first time Provedel has showcased his scoring abilities. While on loan at Juve Stabia in 2020, he also found the net with a late equalizer against Ascoli. Interestingly, Provedel started his career as a striker, tallying 27 goals as a teenager for Pordenone’s youth team during the 2008/09 season before transitioning to the goalkeeper position professionally.

United’s potential pursuit of Provedel means they could replace what many consider to be the world’s best passing goalkeeper with a candidate for the title of the best scoring goalkeeper.

However, Lazio’s asking price of €35 million to sell Provedel seems too high for United in January, though they’ll keep tabs on him for a possible summer transfer.

On the other hand, Andre Onana’s stint at Manchester United hasn’t lived up to expectations following his €51 million (plus €4 million in bonuses) transfer from Inter Milan. Despite a standout Champions League season with Inter, where he topped the clean sheet charts and was acclaimed as the best ball-playing goalkeeper, Onana has struggled at Old Trafford.
