Gallagher, aged 23, has been crucial for Mauricio Pochettino’s team this season, even taking on the captain’s role due to injuries to Reece James and Ben Chilwell. Chelsea, despite Pochettino’s admiration for Gallagher, is considering selling him to finance a move for Victor Osimhen from Napoli. If a bid of about €55 million is made, Chelsea might sell him, with Tottenham Hotspur showing interest in signing him during the January window.

However, this move might not be wise for Chelsea. Despite their strategy of acquiring young talent globally, selling another product of their esteemed academy could damage its reputation. This aligns with Chelsea’s tendency to sell academy graduates for profit, affecting the pathway to the first team and raising concerns about their transfer strategy’s effectiveness.

Selling Gallagher would contradict Pochettino’s preference, as he values Gallagher highly, even though Gallagher’s style may not perfectly match Chelsea’s possession-oriented play. Nonetheless, Gallagher has been remarkably versatile and productive this season, standing out as the sole player in Europe’s major leagues meeting specific statistical benchmarks.

Considering Gallagher’s significance to Chelsea and his unique abilities, selling him to Tottenham, where he could excel in a role similar to Pape Matar Sarr’s under Ange Postecoglou, would be an unconventional decision.
