August saw Fabio Carvalho sign a season-long loan with RB Leipzig. Since then, he has informed Liverpool that he wants to end the deal. The Reds will review his situation once he gets back and resumes training.
Footballwave understands that Liverpool youngster Fabio Carvalho has notified his parent club that he wishes to end his season-long loan to RB Leipzig.
Following a breakout season during Fulham’s Championship promotion campaign, Carvalho first signed with Liverpool in 2022 while still a teenager. He moved to Germany this season in search of more consistent playing time, despite making 21 appearances for the Reds across all competitions.
The 21-year-old attacker hasn’t, however, had the chance he had hoped for with Leipzig. Carvalho has made just one league start and none in the Champions League as the Bundesliga’s winter break draws closer. Since the beginning of October, he has played in just 39 Bundesliga minutes overall.
According to Footballwave, Liverpool is determined to have Carvalho back at Anfield next month as opposed to having him stay on Leipzig’s fringes.
After returning from Germany, Carvalho most likely will train with Liverpool for a few weeks. At that point, the club will evaluate whether it will be best to keep him with them for the remainder of the season or find a new home while the January transfer window is still open.
Back in August, Carvalho wanted to go on loan—not Liverpool. That was his decision. The Portugal Under-21 international pushed for the opportunity, and eventually, his wish was granted, even though the club had preferred that he stay for this season. The Liverpool staff are not particularly happy with the situation, as it has now been shown to be unsuccessful and will be shortened.
Carvalho was raised in and around Lisbon during his early years. He was born in Portugal. He had been in Benfica’s youth system, but when he was eleven years old, his family moved to London, and he lived for a few years at a nearby junior club before Fulham noticed him.
Carvalho’s early upbringing in England qualifies him to represent his nation internationally. Despite having played for England at different age groups in the past, he joined Portugal’s U21 team in 2022. Carvalho was included in Portugal’s preliminary World Cup squad last year, but he still has no senior caps and is eligible for both nations.
