Chelsea look to sell SEVEN stars as £160m of transfers set for exit. Chelsea will look to make wholesale changes to their squad and transfer policy in 2024, with a host of players already facing an exit and focus being made on signing a striker.
After Todd Boehly took over last year, the Blues have spent over £1 billion in three transfer windows. Despite this enormous expenditure, Mauricio Pochettino’s team is currently 12th in the Premier League, and their on-field performance has been lacklustre.
Pochettino has been under increasing pressure in recent weeks, but the Chelsea manager is believed to have the support of the board despite his admission that more acquisitions needed to be made in January.
Due to their excessive spending, Chelsea is currently in violation of financial fair play regulations. According to TEAMtalk, up to seven players may be sold because they are considered “dispensable” and “not at the required standard.”
Trevoh Chalobah, Armando Broja, and Ian Maatsen are rumoured to be available for transfer in January to help relieve the constraints against Chelsea, with academy graduates counting as pure profit for the books.
More than £160 million worth of players are now available for the Blues to sign, with a number of last season’s transfer busts, including Noni Madueke and Malo Gusto, also cited as expendable. The club also wants to sell £40 million summer acquisition Axel Disasi.
Chelsea has added two names to its shortlist of strikers.
Victor Osimhen is reportedly Chelsea’s top target at striker, despite the Napoli star’s expected high price tag of over £100 million.
Chelsea has also long admired Ivan Toney, another player, and 18-year-old forward Antonio Nusa, who has established himself in the Club Brugge lineup.
The Standard, however, has revealed that two more players—FC Copenhagen sensation Roony Bardghji and Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres—have been added to Chelsea’s shortlist in the weeks leading up to the January transfer window.
Gyokeres, who joined Sporting from Coventry in the summer for £20 million, has scored 15 goals in 18 games across all competitions. Bardghji made headlines last month after scoring against Manchester United in the Champions League.
Chelsea may be in for another busy transfer window under Boehly since a striker is unlikely to be affordable until a player is sold and Conor Gallagher is also being considered for departure as he approaches the final 18 months of his contract.
