After overcoming Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar in the Glazer family’s strategic review, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is about to finalise a £1.3 billion deal for a 25% share in Manchester United. However, after missing out on a full sale, Sheikh Jassim might soon leave his mark on another European heavyweight.

Shortly after the Glazers began their search for alternative funding last November, Sir Jim and Sheikh Jassim emerged as the front-runners in the process.

The Qatari pursuit ultimately collapsed when the Glazers were persuaded to sell the club by a bid of approximately £5 billion for 100% ownership, opening the door for Sir Jim and INEOS.

The 71-year-old is expected to pay an outrageous amount for a minority stake with unrestricted sporting control as part of the agreement.

Early next week, United plans to reveal Sir Jim’s and INEOS’ arrival, marking the start of a new chapter at Old Trafford.

Even though plans are underway for a phased takeover, those anticipating a comprehensive sale to remove the Glazers have been let down.

Given the sum of money Sheikh Jassim promised United, his potential involvement with another team will only make matters worse.
