The Reds defender won player of the match from Sky Sports after he equalised in the second half with a low driven shot from 20 yards past Ederson.

Although the outcome did move Liverpool down to third place, most people felt that Jurgen Klopp’s team had gained a point against the team that may end up being their title rivals this season.

In celebration of his goal, Alexander-Arnold “shushed” the City fans. After the game, when asked why he did it, all he could say was that it was “funny.

The Sun, however, claims that the Liverpool defender could face consequences from the FA due to his admission that he purposefully staged the celebration in front of City supporters.

Per the rules of the game, if a player is discovered to have been ‘gesturing or acting in a provocative, derisory or inflammatory way’ towards members of the crowd, they will be dealt a yellow card.

It’s unclear whether referee Chris Kavanagh saw the Liverpool defender celebrate, but he did not book him for it.

The Sun adds, though, that if the FA took any action, Alexander-Arnold would probably be warned about his future behaviour and that there were no specific appeals for sanctions made after the incident occurred in real time.

In his post-match interview with Sky Sports, the 25-year-old discussed the game itself, saying, “There have been numerous occasions when we have played a lot better against City and lost the game. To be honest, it’s a good outcome for us that you came here and understood the point.

As a team, we really needed it. It gives us the mindset that, despite our poor performance against the champions, they are still the best team in the league because they just won a triple crown.
