Manager Jurgen Klopp believes the team would not hasten the attacker’s return in the wake of his father being abducted in Columbia.

News of Diaz’s father’s captivity broke over the weekend, and more recent sources have confirmed that members of the armed terrorist organisation ELN were involved.

But now that the BBC has revealed that an ELN official has stated they will release Diaz’s father in the next few days, the horrifying nightmare appears to be over.

And if that turns out to be the case, Diaz—who has been granted a period of time off—will resume his regular activities. But, Diaz will have plenty of time to choose whether or not to play when the Reds take on Luton Town on Sunday, a team that is vying for relegation. Klopp will let Diaz make that decision.

He told  footballwave at his pre-match press conference, “If he feels right, he will be with us.”

It’s evident that he didn’t get much sleep. We are somewhat encouraged by the news out of Colombia. I have no idea what we’ll decide. Whether or if he makes himself available is up to him.

“We will not force it,” he continued. Together, we are anticipating positive news.

The 4.30 p.m. (UK time) kickoff of Sunday’s Premier League match at Kenilworth Road will be televised live on Sky Sports.
