Manchester United are on the verge of securing their first signing of the summer transfer window after reaching an agreement for Joshua Zirkzee. Reports from Italy suggest that United have struck a deal worth £48 million to bring the Dutch international from Bologna to Old Trafford.

According to Calcio Mercato, the 23-year-old forward has a release clause set at €40 million, but United have agreed to pay approximately €46 million. The payment will be made in installments over three years. A portion of the initial €40 million will go to Bayern Munich, Zirkzee’s former club, while Bologna will retain the additional €6 million.

AC Milan also showed strong interest in signing Zirkzee but were unwilling to cover the agent’s commission required to finalize the deal. In contrast, Manchester United have agreed to pay around €11 million in commission, part of which will go to Zirkzee’s family. This brings the total cost of the deal to €57 million, equivalent to £48 million.

The Netherlands international, who was part of the Oranje squad for Euro 2024, is expected to undergo a medical examination today. Last season, apart from Crystal Palace, every team in the top half of the Premier League scored more goals than Manchester United. Signing Zirkzee is seen as a positive move to bolster their attack and should excite the supporters.
