Chelsea are reportedly considering including one of their current attackers in a deal to acquire Alexander Isak from Newcastle United this summer. The Blues have contacted the Magpies to inquire about the Swedish forward, who finished third in the 2023-24 Premier League Golden Boot race with 21 goals in 30 matches. Only Erling Haaland (27) and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer (22) scored more goals last season.

Isak is under contract with Newcastle until 2028, and with the club making other sales to improve their Financial Fair Play situation, they are under no pressure to sell him at a reduced price. Therefore, Chelsea have been told they would need to pay a club-record fee, surpassing the £115 million spent on Moises Caicedo last year, to secure Isak.

Chelsea may use Nicolas Jackson in a swap deal. The Sun reports that, instead of paying a high fee, Chelsea are considering offering their current number nine, Nicolas Jackson, as part of the agreement. Jackson, who joined Chelsea last summer following Kai Havertz’s transfer to Arsenal, scored 17 goals and provided six assists in 44 appearances under Mauricio Pochettino in the 2023-24 season. However, his inconsistency in the final third has prompted Chelsea to seek another number nine for their first campaign under new manager Enzo Maresca. While Chelsea view Jackson as an important figure, they are open to including him in a deal for Isak.

Jackson, signed for £31.4 million last summer and contracted until June 2031, could be part of Chelsea’s effort to secure Isak. Whether this offer will convince Newcastle remains uncertain, but Chelsea are also looking to offload other strikers. Romelu Lukaku and Armando Broja, returning from loan spells at Roma and Fulham, respectively, are expected to leave Stamford Bridge. Lukaku’s future will be decided after Euro 2024, where Belgium faces France in the last-16, while Broja’s Albania has already exited the tournament. Chelsea may take a financial hit on Lukaku, potentially accepting less than £35 million for their £97.5 million signing, with a permanent move to Italy a possibility.

Chelsea have already sold one attacker, with Omari Hutchinson’s £22 million transfer to Ipswich Town confirmed on Sunday evening.
