Manchester United have reportedly had a £52 million bid accepted by Lille for their 18-year-old defender, Leny Yoro. The young talent has been one of United’s top defensive targets recently. However, they may still face competition from other clubs interested in Yoro, including Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain. Yoro has not yet made a decision about his future.
According to Mail Sport, United’s bid is one that Lille is eager to proceed with, as the club aims to finalize their transfer business promptly ahead of the next season. The Guardian reports that Manchester United is currently negotiating with Yoro’s representatives to secure the deal.
Despite this, United manager Erik ten Hag might still miss out on signing Yoro, as the player reportedly prefers a move to Real Madrid. However, Real Madrid, who recently introduced their new marquee signing Kylian Mbappe, are not inclined to match United’s offer, which consists of £42 million plus an additional £10 million in potential add-ons. Real Madrid is reportedly more interested in waiting until next summer to sign Yoro when he becomes a free agent. This situation is pushing Lille to finalize the deal with United sooner rather than later.
In addition to Yoro, Manchester United is also targeting other defenders, including Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt, to strengthen their squad during the current transfer window.
This transfer period has already seen Manchester United raise funds for future deals by selling academy graduate Willy Kambwala to Villarreal and agreeing in principle to a £30 million move of Mason Greenwood to Marseille.
The club recently welcomed their first major signing of the summer, securing Netherlands international Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for £36.5 million.
