Chelsea are reportedly looking to the Brazilian market to strengthen their squad for the coming seasons. They have already secured deals for Palmeiras’ Estevao Willian in 2025 and Gremio’s Gabriel Mec in 2026. Now, their focus has shifted to another rising Brazilian talent—Joan Pedro Chermont.

Chermont currently plays for Santos, the same club that produced Neymar Jr. and the legendary Pele. According to Brazilian media outlet UOL, Chelsea have been monitoring the performances of the 18-year-old right-back, and even sent scouts to watch him in action during Santos’ match against Operario in September.

Reports suggest that Chelsea made an initial bid of around €6 million for Chermont, but Santos rejected the offer. However, the Premier League club is expected to return with an improved bid during the January transfer window. Chermont recently signed a new contract with Santos that runs until 2027, and his deal includes a hefty €70 million release clause, which Santos are reportedly unwilling to lower.

Chermont is highly regarded at Santos, where he has already established himself as a regular starter. So far this season, he has scored two goals and provided three assists in 24 appearances. Santos currently sit second in Brazil’s Serie B, and Chermont, who is also a member of Brazil’s U-20 team, will be key to their efforts to earn promotion back to Serie A.

As for Chelsea, under manager Enzo Maresca, the team is performing well this season. They are currently fourth in the Premier League standings, having won four of their six matches, with their only loss coming against Manchester City in the opening week. Chelsea have also impressed in the Carabao Cup, securing a 5-0 victory over Barrow AFC in the third round. Additionally, they are competing in the UEFA Conference League, where they began their group stage campaign with a 4-2 win over Gent. Their next match is a Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest on October 6.
