Manchester United has reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, signaling a significant move ahead of the summer transfer window. Manager Rúben Amorim has shed light on the club’s decision to favor Osimhen over other targets, notably Viktor Gyökeres.

Strategic Decision-Making

Amorim, who previously coached Gyökeres at Sporting CP, acknowledged the Swedish forward’s impressive form but cited challenges in securing his transfer. “Amorim has understood that Sporting Lisbon could ask too much for Gyökeres and is testing the waters for Osimhen,” reported journalist Gerardo Fasano.

Osimhen’s Proven Track Record

Victor Osimhen has demonstrated consistent goal-scoring prowess throughout his career. After a successful stint at Napoli, he continued his impressive form on loan at Galatasaray, netting eight goals in nine appearances. Former United striker Louis Saha emphasized Osimhen’s reliability: “He’s been scoring goals for four years at Napoli and has done exactly the same since joining Galatasaray, scoring goals for fun.”

Enhancing United’s Attack

Manchester United’s current forwards, Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee, have struggled, each managing only one league goal this season. Saha believes Osimhen’s experience and mentality could be transformative: “He is a huge character and has the confidence to be a success everywhere he goes… He reminds me of Erling Haaland in that sense. I think he could be what Man Utd need.”

Financial Considerations

Negotiations with Napoli involve a proposed swap deal, offering Zirkzee plus £25 million for Osimhen. Napoli values Osimhen at £62 million and seeks a £10 million annual salary for the player.

Conclusion

Manchester United’s pursuit of Victor Osimhen underscores the club’s commitment to strengthening its attacking options with a proven, dynamic striker. As the summer transfer window approaches, fans eagerly anticipate official confirmation and Osimhen’s potential impact at Old Trafford.
