Dave Fallows is set to leave Liverpool Football Club by the end of this year. Joining Liverpool in 2012 alongside former Manchester City colleague Barry Hunter (now chief scout), Fallows has been instrumental in shaping the club’s recruitment success.
At 64, Fallows is highly regarded for his part in securing key players, including Mo Salah, who joined from Roma in 2017 in a £34.3 million deal. Other notable signings under his guidance include Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker, both of whom have significantly contributed to Liverpool’s success. In a 2020 interview, Jurgen Klopp credited the scouting team, specifically mentioning Fallows, Michael Edwards, and Barry Hunter, for advocating Salah’s signing. “The scouting department was really behind me,” Klopp shared. “Michael Edwards, Dave Fallows, and Barry [Hunter], they were really in my ear: ‘Come on, come on, Mo Salah, he’s the solution!’”
Paul Joyce confirmed Fallows’ upcoming departure on X (formerly Twitter), noting that Fallows, currently Liverpool’s director of scouting and recruitment, will be leaving after more than ten years with the club. Speaking to Liverpool’s website, Fallows expressed his gratitude for his time with the club, highlighting the support of Liverpool fans and the friendships he’s formed over the years. “I have been very privileged to work for this incredible football club,” he stated. “The fantastic people here, starting with the supporters, make it so special.”
Fallows has already been involved in a behind-the-scenes transition process to ensure a smooth handover. After over a decade in a demanding role, it’s understandable that he might be ready for a change. His departure echoes that of other high-profile figures at the club, including former sporting director Michael Edwards, who moved on in 2021 after ten years. Working at a top-tier club like Liverpool is undoubtedly rewarding but comes with its own pressures. Fallows’ 12 years of dedicated service highlight his commitment, making his impact on the club’s recruitment legacy undeniable.
