Newcastle United remain determined to sign Crystal Palace’s highly-rated centre-back, Marc Guehi, despite competition from other Premier League clubs, particularly Liverpool. Guehi, a 24-year-old England international, has become a key player for both club and country, making him a hot prospect in the transfer market. His performances have attracted significant interest from top clubs, and with Newcastle’s defensive issues, they are keen to bolster their backline with his talents.

The Magpies have already made several attempts to secure Guehi’s services, submitting four bids during the summer transfer window. However, all were turned down by Crystal Palace, who have placed a hefty price tag on their star defender. Newcastle’s latest plan involves a record-breaking £80 million offer in January, a figure that is believed to be much closer to Palace’s valuation of the player. If Newcastle can meet that price, it is expected to open negotiations between the two clubs and potentially pave the way for Guehi’s transfer to St. James’ Park.

However, there is a major hurdle in Newcastle’s pursuit of Guehi. Reports indicate that the player himself may prefer a move to Liverpool over Newcastle. While the Reds have also shown interest in the defender, they are unlikely to match Newcastle’s substantial offer during the January transfer window. This leaves Guehi in a difficult position, as his desired move may not materialize unless Liverpool adjusts their strategy.

Liverpool’s approach to the transfer depends largely on the future of their current defensive stalwart, Virgil van Dijk. The Dutch captain is central to Liverpool’s defense, and as long as he remains at the club, Liverpool may not feel the same urgency to pursue Guehi. If Van Dijk stays and extends his contract, the immediate need for another top-tier centre-back would diminish, making a move for Guehi less likely in the near term.

On the other hand, Newcastle cannot afford to wait. Manager Eddie Howe and the Newcastle board are eager to address their defensive frailties as soon as possible. The team has had its own issues at the back, and bringing in a player of Guehi’s caliber could significantly strengthen their squad. With January fast approaching, Newcastle are expected to be aggressive in their pursuit of the defender.

Despite all the transfer speculation, Guehi’s immediate focus must remain on his current club, Crystal Palace. Palace have struggled this season and find themselves near the bottom of the Premier League table after seven games. Without a win so far, they are languishing in 18th place and need their best players, like Guehi, to perform at a high level if they are to turn their season around.

For now, Guehi remains a crucial part of Crystal Palace’s squad, but his future is the subject of intense speculation. Newcastle are preparing to make a bold move to secure his services, but the player’s preference for Liverpool complicates matters. As the January transfer window approaches, the battle for Guehi’s signature will likely intensify, with Newcastle determined to push through a deal, while Liverpool’s interest adds an extra layer of intrigue to the situation.
