A former Premier League striker has revealed insider information about the future of a long-time Liverpool player, fueling rumors about his potential departure. Mohamed Salah’s contract situation has been a constant topic of speculation, especially with only nine months left on his current deal and no immediate indication of a new agreement.
During a talkSPORT Breakfast appearance, Gabriel Agbonlahor, a former Aston Villa striker, confidently stated that Salah will be heading to Saudi Arabia next year to sign a record-breaking contract, making him the highest-paid player in the country’s top division. Agbonlahor asserted, “I know Salah’s going. I’ve got a source that told me Salah’s definitely going to Saudi, on a record contract. I’m hearing that he’ll earn more than [Cristiano] Ronaldo; he’ll be the face of football over there. You can’t turn that down if you’re Mo Salah. He’s done everything at Liverpool, hasn’t he?”
Despite Agbonlahor’s strong stance, his claims should be taken with caution, especially in light of a recent angry rebuttal from Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa. Issa dismissed reports from so-called ‘insiders,’ stating that “sources close to” Salah “don’t exist,” and any rumors of an impending move were “based on absolutely nothing.”
Agbonlahor isn’t the only former Premier League player suggesting that Salah might leave Liverpool, though. Nedum Onuoha, a former Manchester City defender, has pointed to Salah’s body language as a possible indication that he may depart in the summer of 2025.
While there’s no denying that clubs in the Saudi Pro League could offer Salah a lucrative deal, it’s important to remember that the forward is still performing at a high level. His exceptional form at the start of this season shows that he continues to have much to contribute to top-level football in Europe, and at 32, he’s far from nearing the end of his career.
It’s possible that those who are predicting his exit in 2025 are simply weary of seeing Salah continue to shine, especially as he regularly causes damage to their favorite teams. But based on his current performances, it seems that the Egyptian King will likely continue to disappoint those who hope to see him leave anytime soon.
