Full Liverpool squad to face Nottingham Forest confirmed - as Arne Slot to omit four players

As Liverpool prepare for their upcoming match against Nottingham Forest, head coach Arne Slot faces what many describe as a “managerial headache.” However, for Slot, it’s likely a welcome challenge, as he has almost a fully fit squad to choose from for this Premier League clash.

With just one player, Harvey Elliott, unavailable due to injury, Slot will have to make the tough decision of leaving three players out of the matchday squad. This is a positive dilemma for the manager as he aims to maintain Liverpool’s perfect start to the 2024-25 season.

Key Absences and Returns
Harvey Elliott remains the only player sidelined, currently in the treatment room as the season progresses. However, Slot will have Curtis Jones back at his disposal. Jones missed the previous two matches due to injury but has returned to training and is expected to make the squad for the Forest game, possibly taking Elliott’s place on the bench.

Slot will also need to make decisions regarding new signing Federico Chiesa. The Italian winger, who joined from Juventus for up to £12.5 million on the penultimate day of the transfer window, was not included in the squad for the 3-0 victory over Manchester United as he was lacking match fitness. Chiesa has since trained with his new teammates, and Slot has hinted that the winger could be in contention to make his Liverpool debut.

Goalkeeper Situation
Alisson Becker is expected to start in goal as usual, having returned from international duty with Brazil. The Brazilian played twice during the international break and is Liverpool’s undisputed first-choice keeper. Meanwhile, second-choice goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is also available after featuring in both of the Republic of Ireland’s international fixtures.

Liverpool’s third-choice goalkeeper, Vitezslav Jaros, will likely be one of the three players left out of the squad, given the presence of Alisson and Kelleher.

 Defensive Options
In defense, Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate are expected to start as the centre-back pairing, with Jarell Quansah providing backup. Joe Gomez has yet to feature this season and seems to be lower in the pecking order, but his versatility might keep him in the squad. Gomez can cover both centre-back and full-back positions, making him a valuable option if either Kostas Tsimikas or Conor Bradley are omitted from the squad.

Slot will also have to decide whether to leave out one of his defenders to make room for Chiesa in the squad, should he opt to bolster his attacking options.

Midfield Dilemma
In midfield, Slot will have several players to choose from. Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo are expected to compete for the No. 6 role, with the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Curtis Jones offering additional options in more advanced positions. Tyler Morton, who returned to the squad after spending two seasons on loan at Blackburn Rovers and Hull City, is training with the first team but has not yet made a matchday squad this season. With the depth in midfield, Morton may find himself left out once again.

Attack: Salah, Jota, Nunez, Gakpo, and Chiesa
In attack, Liverpool will have a wealth of options. Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez, and Cody Gakpo are all available, and Chiesa’s potential inclusion could add even more depth to an already potent forward line. Slot’s decision will hinge on whether he believes Chiesa is fit enough to make an impact in his debut.
