Former Manchester United manager David Moyes has identified Pep Guardiola as the main obstacle facing his old club.

Manchester United have not secured a Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s triumphant 2012/13 season. Following Ferguson’s retirement, the club has gone through multiple managers and significant changes in their squad.

After finishing eighth last season, current head coach Erik ten Hag and his team have faced significant criticism. While many argue this criticism is justified due to their underwhelming performance, Moyes disagrees.

David Moyes on Man Utd’s Primary Challenge

Moyes, who departed from West Ham in May, believes that Manchester United’s greatest challenge is not internal, but rather external, in the form of Manchester City manager Guardiola. Speaking to Up Front With Simon Jordan, Moyes stated, “Erik ten Hag is currently battling immense pressure, but he has performed admirably. In the past two years, he has won two trophies despite facing constant criticism. I respect his resilience and determination.”

He continued, “There were talks over the summer about the security of ten Hag’s position, which I found unfair. Despite the speculation, he has handled it with remarkable dignity and remains committed to proving himself.”

Moyes concluded by asserting, “The real issue for United isn’t their manager or players, but the formidable presence of Manchester City and Pep Guardiola.”
