Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Federico Chiesa is set to join Liverpool from Juventus. Romano reported on Wednesday that Liverpool and Juventus have reached an agreement, with the Premier League club agreeing to pay €13 million plus add-ons for the Italian international. Chiesa has committed to a four-year contract with Liverpool, marking a significant move in his career.
Chiesa, a highly talented winger, is reportedly thrilled about joining Liverpool, as moving to the Premier League has been a long-standing ambition of his. Expressing his excitement, Chiesa stated, “I’m very happy to join Liverpool. I want to say thanks to Liverpool.” The Italian star is expected to fly to Liverpool later today, where he will undergo a medical before officially becoming a member of the Reds.
Liverpool has admired Chiesa for several years, having previously attempted to secure his signature under the management of Jürgen Klopp. Now, with new manager Arne Slot also a fan of the player, Liverpool has successfully completed the signing of the winger they were keen to bring in before the transfer window closes. The Reds have managed to outmaneuver Barcelona in this deal, as the Spanish giants were unable to make an official offer due to financial constraints and registration issues.
Juventus, meanwhile, had been eager to offload Chiesa, having sidelined him since the start of the preseason. The Italian club was unable to reach an agreement on a contract extension with Chiesa, whose current deal was set to expire in 2025. Once considered one of the world’s best wingers, particularly after his standout performances in Italy’s Euro 2020 victory, Chiesa’s career trajectory was altered by a serious ACL injury in January 2022. Since then, he has struggled to regain his top form.
New Juventus manager Thiago Motta did not see Chiesa as part of his plans, which made the decision to sell him easier for the club. Juventus has already moved to replace Chiesa by signing Nico González from Fiorentina and Francisco Conceição from Porto on loan. They are now reportedly focusing on securing Jadon Sancho from Manchester United on loan as they continue to rebuild their squad.
Chiesa initially joined Juventus from Fiorentina in 2020, making 131 appearances, scoring 32 goals, and winning two Coppa Italia trophies as well as an Italian Super Cup during his time with the club. His move to Liverpool represents a fresh start and an opportunity to revive his career in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.
