Arsenal are interested in signing Bayern Munich forward Leroy Sane, Footballwave reports. The Gunners are preparing a potential backup plan in case their primary forward target, Nico Williams, becomes unattainable this summer.

Sources indicate that if Arsenal were to offer more than £40 million (€47.6 million), Bayern Munich would be open to negotiations, despite Vincent Kompany’s desire to keep Sane. Although Bayern is not actively looking to sell the former Manchester City star, they do not consider him “untouchable.” Bayern is looking to raise funds by selling a wide player, having already spent €145 million on new signings in the current transfer window.

Sane is not actively seeking to leave Allianz Arena but would consider an attractive contract offer from Arsenal. At 28, he is in his prime and is approaching the stage where he seeks a substantial deal for his career.

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, knows Sane well from their time together at Manchester City, where Arteta was the assistant manager under Pep Guardiola. This connection could be crucial in convincing Sane to move to the Emirates Stadium if Arsenal decides to make a concrete offer.

Athletic Club and Spain breakout star Williams remains Arteta’s preferred target for the wings, but Arsenal is hesitant to spend excessively on him. This hesitation could lead Williams to either stay or sign with Barcelona, who are expected to increase their pursuit this week.

Sane has spoken highly of his time with Arteta, saying, “It was great. I was pleased to work with him because he really helped me at City. We had a lot of individual talks about how I can improve, my strengths, and weaknesses. I made huge improvements under him. He gave that to me, and I still keep that in my mind and put that in my game – positioning, how to behave in certain positions. I’m thankful.”

Additionally, Sane plays alongside Kai Havertz in the German national team, potentially easing his transition to Arsenal. The presence of familiar faces in Arteta and Havertz could entice Sane if Arsenal decides to pursue the move.
