With the recent departure of striker Anthony Martial, who ended his nine-year spell at Old Trafford last month, the Red Devils are keen to bolster their attack. Manchester United have reportedly identified a three-man shortlist of strikers for the upcoming summer transfer window.
Despite uncertainty surrounding the future of manager Erik ten Hag, the club is eager to strengthen their squad ahead of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s first summer in charge. Following the recent departure of striker Anthony Martial, who ended his nine-year tenure at Old Trafford, United is keen to bolster their attacking options.
According to ESPN, the three strikers on United’s wishlist are Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Lille’s Jonathan David, and Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee.
Currently, Danish forward Rasmus Hojlund is the only recognized striker in United’s squad. After a tumultuous 2023-24 campaign, the club is determined to bring in reinforcements.
Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee, who joined from Bayern Munich in August 2022, finished joint-15th in the Serie A scoring charts last season. Zirkzee scored 11 goals in 34 league games, helping Bologna secure fifth place and a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League. Despite his contributions, Zirkzee, who also provided four assists, may not be at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara when Bologna embarks on their first elite European campaign since 1964. He is in high demand and has a modest £34 million release clause in his current contract.
Meanwhile, both Ivan Toney and Jonathan David are entering the final years of their respective contracts, which could make them available at a reduced price.
Additionally, RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is also on United’s radar, though he is expected to extend his stay with the German club. The 21-year-old had attracted strong interest from both Arsenal and Manchester United, who appeared set to compete for his signature.
Ajax’s Brian Brobbey is another name of interest, although this interest is reportedly driven by ten Hag.
As United looks to make significant additions to their squad, the focus remains on securing a top striker to enhance their attacking prowess for the next season.
