It’s no secret that Arsenal are actively seeking to sign a forward this summer. Mikel Arteta’s team aims to bring in a proven goal-scorer to help close the gap between themselves and Manchester City. The club initially targeted Benjamin Sesko, but the RB Leipzig forward decided to extend his contract, ending any potential move.

Arsenal have now shifted their focus to Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres. Scouts have been closely monitoring Gyokeres’ performance in Portugal and have been impressed. Gyokeres scored 43 goals in 50 matches across all competitions for Sporting, finishing as the club’s top scorer and playing a key role in their league and cup double. He also provided 15 assists, contributing a goal or assist every 72 minutes on average.

It’s clear why Arsenal are eager to bring Gyokeres to the Emirates this summer. Reports suggest that negotiations between Arsenal, Sporting, and Gyokeres’ representatives have progressed significantly. According to Leonio, Arsenal are now “very close” to signing Gyokeres, with financial details being the final hurdle. Sporting is expected to demand a substantial fee for the player.

Gyokeres joined Sporting just last summer after a standout season with Coventry City, where he narrowly missed out on promotion to the Premier League. He is under contract with Sporting until 2028, meaning the Portuguese club will look to make a significant profit on the €20 million they invested in Gyokeres last year.
