Arsenal have shifted their focus to a new target in their search for a centre-forward, a player previously seen as a prime alternative to Kylian Mbappe before his move to Real Madrid. Initially, Arsenal had prioritized signing RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, but their plans were thwarted when Sesko extended his contract with the Bundesliga club on Wednesday.

Now, under the leadership of Mikel Arteta, Arsenal are exploring various other options. According to the Evening Standard, one potential candidate is Feyenoord’s striker Santiago Gimenez. Despite the setback with Sesko, Arsenal are open to selling Gabriel Jesus if they receive a suitable offer, reports The Athletic. This sale could potentially fund the acquisition of a player like Gimenez, who was valued between €40-60 million when Chelsea and Real Madrid showed interest in him earlier this year.

Gimenez had previously been considered a strong alternative for Real Madrid if they failed to secure Mbappe. Data analytics experts, SciSports, had even suggested that Gimenez might be a better fit than the former PSG striker. While Gimenez is more of a poacher compared to Mbappe, this quality aligns with Arsenal’s need for more attacking power. However, SciSports also noted that Gimenez is significantly less strong compared to Kai Havertz.

In terms of playing style, Gimenez would integrate well at Arsenal. SciSports gives him a Club Fit score of 85 for Real Madrid and 80 for Arsenal. The 23-year-old is seen as having excellent potential for development under Arteta and is a good match for both the playing style and formation at Arsenal. Despite concerns over limited playing time, especially given Havertz’s current form, Gimenez’s overall fit and potential development opportunities make him a viable option for Arsenal.
