Manchester United are leading the charge in the pursuit of Juventus defender Gleison Bremer, with Corriere dello Sport reporting that they are the frontrunners over Newcastle United in securing his signature.

As Manchester United gear up for the summer transfer window, they have earmarked Bremer as their primary target to bolster their defensive line, as per Italian sources.

Despite Bremer penning a fresh long-term deal with Juventus in December, a ‘soft release clause’ of €61 million was included in the agreement, paving the way for his potential departure.

Corriere dello Sport (page 2) indicates that Bremer seems destined for a move to the Premier League, with Manchester United holding the upper hand in negotiations over Newcastle.

Juventus stands to gain €55 million from Bremer’s prospective transfer, with his former club Torino entitled to 10 percent of the fee in accordance with the terms of his departure.

The Brazilian defender has earned plaudits for his performances in Serie A, catching the attention of Manchester United as they inch closer towards securing his services.

Given the presence of the release clause, Manchester United would bypass the need for protracted negotiations with Juventus, streamlining the process if personal terms are agreed upon.

Currently pocketing €178,000 per week with Juventus, Bremer is anticipated to demand a higher wage, potentially around €250,000 weekly, should he make the switch to Old Trafford.

While there may be reservations regarding Bremer’s age, at 27, manager Erik ten Hag could be eyeing him as an experienced replacement for Raphael Varane, whose contract expires in June and hasn’t been extended.

Bremer’s statistics in Serie A speak volumes about his defensive prowess, boasting an impressive passing accuracy of 87 percent this season. He has been instrumental in duels, winning an average of 5.4 per game, alongside 5.4 recoveries and 3.9 clearances.

Additionally, he has demonstrated his tackling ability with an average of 1.8 tackles per outing, contributing to 12 clean sheets. With Bremer reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League, Manchester United seem poised to secure his services.
