Arsenal is poised to offload Brazilian winger Marquinhos in the upcoming weeks, with Fluminense, a Brazilian club, on the verge of finalizing a deal. Despite playing for multiple teams in Europe since his move in 2022, the Brazil U-23 international has struggled to make an impact.

Following the acquisition of Gabriel Martinelli from Ituano in Brazil’s fourth division, Arsenal decided to give it another shot by signing Marquinhos from Sao Paulo in Brasileirao Serie A for €3 million. Initially highly regarded at the Emirates, Marquinhos was swiftly integrated into the first-team setup. However, his performances failed to convince manager Mikel Arteta, leading to a loan stint at Norwich City in January 2023.

Unfortunately, Marquinhos’ time at Norwich didn’t go as planned, managing just one goal and one assist in 11 appearances. He then moved to FC Nantes on loan for the 2023-24 season but struggled once again, making only seven league appearances without finding the net. Consequently, Arsenal opted to terminate his loan spell prematurely and bring him back to the Emirates.

Currently representing the Brazil U-23 national team in a pre-Olympics qualifying tournament, Marquinhos is expected to join Fluminense on loan after the competition concludes. The loan deal is rumored to include an option to buy for around €3 million.

In other news, Arsenal has included defender Jurrien Timber in their squad for the UEFA Europa League knockout rounds. Timber, who arrived from Ajax in the summer, suffered a thigh injury during his Premier League debut. Despite this setback, the versatile defender showcased his potential during preseason, featuring in various positions and impressing with his tactical understanding.

Arteta experimented with Timber in different roles, including replacing Ben White on the right and Oleksandr Zinchenko on the left. As Timber nears his return to action, Arsenal anticipates his contribution in the latter part of the season. The 22-year-old’s flexibility and tactical acumen make him a valuable asset for the team.
