However, Jonathan Johnson reports that there doesn’t appear to be any chance of him returning to his old team, Paris Saint-Germain, when his playing career ends for a number of reasons.
For his Daily Briefing column, Johnson spoke exclusively to Footballwave about Silva’s departure from PSG and the circumstances surrounding it. This may indicate that a reunion with Silva’s old team wouldn’t be simple.
Even though some important PSG figures, like Leonardo, are no longer at the Parc des Princes, the veteran Brazilian defender’s abrupt departure for Chelsea may have left some bitter taste, even though he will undoubtedly go down as a PSG legend.
Although Johnson implied that Silva, 39, would likely play at least one season in his home country of Brazil before transitioning into coaching or something similar for his post-playing career, it is currently unclear even if Silva will hang up his boots.
Johnson stated, “Thiago Silva’s future is still up in the air as he approaches the end of his contract and turns 40 the following season, despite the fact that he plays regularly for Chelsea.”
Silva looks back with fondness on his wonderful years at PSG, but I believe that one barrier to his potential comeback one day after retiring could be the way he left. “That seems like one to watch, considering what Silva has said about his future in the last year or so. It does appear that he wants to play for at least a year in Brazil before hanging up his boots. I doubt that we would see him play elsewhere in Europe if he were to stay at Chelsea for a little while longer.
“His career longevity has been impressive, and he has the potential to play well into his 40s, similar to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.” If not, he might soon be thought of as having the kind of experience that would make a great addition to any backroom crew.
