Arsenal is vying with Liverpool for the position of versatile defender with major European teams.
Prior to the 2024 transfer window, it is claimed that Liverpool is looking for a right-back. Arsenal is expected to compete with the Reds for one of their targets.
Footballwave reports that Jurgen Klopp is looking to bolster his defensive lineup with a new right-back, and Devyne Rensch of Ajax is one name on the Merseyside club’s list.
This season, the 20-year-old has started for European powerhouses as a right-back, but he is also capable of playing at center back, defensive midfield, and left back.
In the nine games this season, the Dutch star has contributed one assist, but an injury has kept him out of Ajax’s last three games.
Rensch’s contract with Ajax expires in 2025, so if he doesn’t sign a new agreement in Amsterdam, next summer would be the best moment to move the young player.
Joe Gomez covered for the England star during his injured spell earlier this season, but Klopp wants cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold. Rensch would satisfy both of the German coach’s needs because he was also looking for a center-back this summer but never brought one to Anfield.
Arsenal, the Premier League’s top opponents, will compete with the Reds and will be keeping a close eye on the Netherlands international as well.
At the Emirates, the 20-year-old would probably cover for Ben White, but Mikel Arteta would benefit from his versatility just as it did at Liverpool.
